When the Scale Won’t Budge

It has been about a week since I started cleaning up my diet.  I feel better but the scale hasn’t budged.  I’m not going to lie.  It is annoying.  Obviously through my weight struggles throughout the years I have had many times when my diet has hit a standstill

Yup. Source

Shock your Body: Your body can get very used to routine.  If you are eating the same number of calories and exercising the same way each day your body will adjust and adapt.  Add a couple hundred calories for a day or two.  Hit up a spin class, or do an interval workout you don’t normally do.  Anything to get your body guessing again!

Feed your Body: Sometimes when we diet we tend to take off too many calories.  Sometimes that magic 1200 calories a day number is too small for many people, especially those who are active.)  Your body will begin to  think it is starving and will try to conserve everything making weight loss that much more difficult!

Treat you Body: Stress and tension can do terrible things to a body.  It is important to relax and take everything one step at a time.  Earlier in the year I found that I was really stressed about a few things and put on a couple of pounds rather quickly.  As soon as I was able to work it out and relax about the situation the pounds came right off without any effort.  A body can retain water in times like that and can cause water weight gain easily.  To relax take a yoga class, meditate, take a warm bath, or give yourself a nice excuse to get yourself a massage.

I am going to take my own advice as well and hopefully I will see some movement in the near future.

Question: What do you do when the scale gets stuck?

  1. I had the same problem!!!! For like 8 weeks the scale didn’t move and I normally ate between 1200 – 1300 calories a day very active and it was driving me nuts… lol This week i have eaten no processed food only fresh seafood, fruits and veggies the only dairy has been eggs and only 100% whole wheat bread. I lost 7 lbs in a lil over a week and thats the only thing I changed… I was so happy so for me and my family its clean eating…

    • I think I am going to take your advice and when I go grocery shopping today shop according to your clean list. I have been cleaning up my diet but it is still far from clean! Congrats on the awesome weightloss! :)

  2. Ugh that nasty scale, so mean. But you’re so right. I was in a perpetually frustrating faze for a while there, on a very limited diet, exercising a lot, and not seeing the scale budge for SIX months!! I started tracking my food, had my friend (a trainer) look at it, and she told me I need to eat WAY more (including a ton more protein), and suddenly the weight fell off! Then…of course, I have been super stressed lately, going through health problems, and no matter how clean my diet is or how much I work out, I’m GAINING weight! Ahh…so I snatched up a Groupon for a personal trainer just to mix it up, and I’m already feeling better…but I refuse to weigh in. It’s just too emotionally draining.
    Keep up the hard work!!

    • I was actually thinking of throwing out my scale since I feel like weight in everyday dictates my mood for the day when it really shouldn’t. But I just can’t keep myself from getting on it! I hope you feel better and good luck with the trainer! :)

  3. I go by how my clothes feel and how I feel in them :) I can’t go by the scale because those numbers don’t take into account fat, muscle (loss/gain) etc….When need be, I get measured to keep track of where I’m at!

Don’t get discouraged. Keep going! :)
